2007 State runner-up Lake Central begins the 2008 IHSAA girls' cross-country season as the top ranked team, according to the initial Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches' poll.
Lake Central, who is scheduled to return their top four runners and five of their top seven from last year's State Meet, are rated ahead of Carmel, Valparaiso, Fort Wayne Carroll, and Columbus North in this week's rankings.
Three-time defending state champion Westfield begins the year ranked eighth, after the loss of a few seniors as well as Waverly Neer's transfer following a fantastic freshman season.
