Shooting 15-strokes better than the second-place team in a nine-team field in Avon on Tuesday gave the Martinsville High School girls golf team its fifth win of the season.
It also impressed coach Sharon Most.
“I am really impressed with our scores at this point in the season,” Most said.
Martinsville carded a 305 team score with the Avon gold team shooting a 320. Third-place Greensburg shot a 350.
All five Martinsville players finished in the top-10 of the field. Leading Martinsville — and the field — was Carleigh Silvers, who shot a 1-under par round of 70 at Prestwick in taking medalist honors. Teammate Kelsey Benson claimed the fourth-best score with her third consecutive round of shooting 76. Shelby Wilson finished in eighth place by shooting her second 79 of the season. And Nina Jackson and Jaclyn Schindler tied for 10th place shooting an 80.
“We have to keep challenging ourselves to get better at each practice and at each meet,” Most said. “I think the team is gaining confidence in each other and will only continue to improve with their enthusiastic work ethic. We need to continue to stay focused on the goals that we have set for ourselves.”
Also competing in the tournament were Brownsburg, Lafayette Jeff, North Central, Plainfield, Zionsville and Avon (black).
Martinsville will compete at the Mid-West Classic on Saturday in Canton, Ohio.
