It is the closest the Batesville High School tennis team has been to losing a conference match in many years.
The Greensburg Pirates traveled to Batesville and pushed them to the limit.
Batesville head coach Jack Froman took a chance by changing his line-up a bit and it resulted in a close 3-2 victory.
Brandon Kerker and Connor Hagan moved from their singles position to No. 2 doubles to secure the match’s first point. The Batesville duo won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 over John Dougan and Danny Glaser.
Tyler Hagan picked up the second BHS victory with a straight set win at No. 1 singles. Hagan knocked off Greg Dougan 6-2 and 6-3.
Greensburg victories at No. 2 and 3 singles squared the match and put the focus on No. 1 doubles.
Tom Robertson and Nick Wanstrath won the first set for Batesville 6-1, but dropped the second 4-6 to Pirates Elijah Harter and Trevor Schebler.
The Pirates took an early lead in the third set before Wanstrath and Robertson rallied to win 6-4.
The Bulldogs followed up with their third Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference win three days later.
