Four of the state’s top 12 teams according to the state coaches poll, including two returnees from last year, make up the field for this Saturday’s 42nd annual IHSAA Team Tennis State Finals at North Central High School.

No. 3 Center Grove (19-2) meets No. 8 Munster (22-0) in one semifinal match, while No. 5 Zionsville (20-2) and No. 12 Columbus North (22-2) meet in the other match. Both are set to begin at 10 am ET / 9 am CT.

Zionsville and Columbus North are the two returning teams from 2007, but both fell short of their goal last year by falling in the semifinal round (Zionsville took a 4-1 decision in the ensuing consolation match), but one of them will advance to the state title contest for the first time. Columbus North is making its sixth appearance in the finals and Zionsville its second.

Munster will be making its 11th trip, the most of any of the four schools involved, but the semifinal round hasn’t been kind to the Mustangs who will attempt to advance to the championship round for the time since their runner-up season of 1977. Center Grove has reached this level for the seventh time overall and first since its state title season of 2001. The Trojans appear primed having disposed of two highly-ranked opponents -- No. 6 Brebeuf Jesuit and No. 2 North Central – by 3-2 scores in last Saturday’s semi-state.

The only prior meeting this season between any of the team was on Sept. 6 when Center Grove took a 5-0 decision at home from Columbus North.

Also on Saturday, the regional round of the State Singles and Doubles Tournament will be contested at two different sites. Park Tudor School (7200 N. College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46240) will host the singles competition in the morning while Carmel High School (520 E. Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032) will host the doubles competition. Both singles and doubles matches will be played at Park Tudor during the afternoon session. Singles players and doubles teams that win twice on Saturday will advance to the Individual State Finals on Oct. 24-25 at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis. Pairings

Official results for both team and individual tournaments will be available in the tennis clubhouse following each session and also be posted to the IHSAA website.
