The Pendleton Heights boys varsity soccer squad hit a brick wall on the road Thursday night in the form of Brownsburg H.S. and came out on the losing end 4-1.
The halftime score was 2-0 in favor of host Brownsburg. Trey Merryman scored the lone PHHS goal at the 6:30 mark of the 2nd half, making the score 2-1. Josh Petry made a perfect pass to the driving Merryman, who chipped the ball over the BHS keeper for the score.
Brownsburg went on to score twice more in the second half. BHS out shot the Arabians 11-4 and keeper Gage Martin had 8 saves for PHHS. The Arabian’s effort actually appeared more inspired than the 1-0 victory over Anderson the previous night.
Pendleton Heights coach Cooper noted “we were slow getting started against a very tough and skilled Brownsburg team. Merryman, Petry, and most of our midfielders picked things up in the 2nd half and even though the score was 4-1, we played pretty well and I am proud of the guys. I’m excited as we head into the of our conference matches.”
Pendleton is now 7-3-1 and 2-0 in conference play. PHHS plays conference foe Yorktown on the Pendleton pitch Tuesday Sept. 16.
