The Pendleton Heights boys varsity squad played in the Noblesville Classic on Saturday taking on West Lafayette (W.L.) in the opener and winning that match 2-1. PHHS was out shot by W.L. 7-6 and Gage Martin had 5 saves. Once Coach Cooper convinced the team how to break the W.L. trapping defense, the Arabians gained needed momentum. Josh Petry scored unassisted on a blast from 15 yds and Trey Merryman scored from 7 yards on an assist from Josh Wilson, giving the Arabians a 2-0 halftime lead. W.L. scored in the 30:00 minute of the 2nd half but was unable to crack the PHHS defense again.
Coach Cooper commented, "We played well this morning against a class West Lafayette team. I'm proud of the boys getting into this championship this afternoon."
The championship match was a different story as the Arabians ran into a buzzsaw in the 20th ranked Noblesville Millers. PHHS was outshot 16-1 and Noblesville defeated the Arabian squad 5-0. Keepers Martin and Kevin Brady combined for 8 saves.
Coach Cooper said "Obviously we have some things to work on. Zach Peach, Josh Wilson, and Jake Tuttle had some good runs in this one but its obvious why Noblesville is ranked as high as they are. We take away a lot from this game but it hopefully makes us better in the end to play quality teams like this."
PHHS is now 6-2-1 and face Anderson and Brownsburg later this week.
