Week 4 football wrapup
Posted 9/17/2008 1:00:00 PM

Call it a week of offense – there were a number of blowouts and a total of 20 teams scored 55 or more points in Week 4… Here are my thoughts and comments on selected games from around the state.

The attention grabbers:

Jasper 18, Heritage Hills 0
What??? This is just the 2nd regular season loss in the last 10 years for the Patriots.  Since 1994 Heritage Hills is 122-4 in the regular season.  Congratulations to Jasper.

Lawrence Central 28, Pike 21
The run continues for LC, while it’s a losing streak for Pike.  The Bears are one of the biggest surprises in the state at 4-0, while the Red Devils lose their second straight for a 2-2 mark.

Bloomington South 69, Bloomington North 41
Wow, what a game this must have been.  The Panthers have been scoring in bunches this year – they’re averaging 43 points through their four wins.

The predictable:

Sheridan 26, Clinton Central 6
The streak is still alive… 40 straight wins for Sheridan.

Carmel 48, Terre Haute South 0
#1 Carmel goes to 4-0 and is 2-0 in the MIC.

Center Grove 47, Terre Haute North 0
A week after their one-point home loss to #1 Carmel, the Trojans get a road win in the MIC.

Fort Wayne Dwenger 41, Fort Wayne Northrup 0
Dwenger grabs their fourth win, while Northrup has been shutout three times and has scored just three points in four games.

Columbus East 56, Jennings County 0
Another blowout victory for the Olympians, who are 4-0.  They’re winning by over 40 points per game.

Fort Wayne Snider 35, Fort Wayne Elmhurst 0
Snider goes to 4-0, Elmhurst is 0-4.

Warren Central 42, Ben Davis 21
The Warriors are athletic beyond belief.  With the win, they’ve beaten rival Ben Davis nine straight times.

The rest:

Bremen 48, Triton 8
Bremen wins their third straight and hands Triton their first loss.

Concord 58, Wawasee 7
The third most explosive offense in the state so far, Concord is averaging exactly 50 points in their four wins.

Fishers 49, Avon 35
Fishers goes the 3-1 and I continue to tell everyone that Rick Wimmer can coach.

Fort Wayne Luers 17, Harding 6
The big game in Fort Wayne, Luers gives up their first points of the season but keep rolling as the team to beat in 2A.

Hamilton Southeastern 20, Zionsville 16
The Royals hang on to stay unbeaten.  They’ve been very predictable this year – their scores are 29-27, 24-17, 22-0, and 20-16.

Heritage Christian 57, Cascade 0
A tale of two teams.  4-0 Heritage Christian has allowed just six points this season, while 0-4 Cascade has not yet scored.

Indianapolis Cathedral 15, Indianapolis Chatard 14
In a clash, the Irish get the one point win and are through the toughest part of their schedule.

Indianapolis Ritter 40, Speedway 27
It’s the first time Speedway hasn’t scored in the 40s this season and ends up their first loss in the rivalry to Ritter.

Lafayette Central Catholic 56, Guerin Catholic 7
LCC has scored 92 points in the last two weeks.

Mooresville 29, Franklin 0
What a family of coaches the Blesses are.  With huge roster turnover, Mark Bless - and his father, assistant coach Bill - has Mooresville 4-0 with son Tyler playing.

North Daviess 26, Washington 10
The county 1A beats the county seat 3A for the first time in four years.

North Montgomery 44, Tri-West 21
The Chargers keep the offense going and hand the Bruins their first loss.

Portage 22, Merrillville 20
The Indians take down the Pirates to keep Portage’s perfect record.

Southport 35, Perry Meridian 0
The last time Southport was 3-1?  1995.

Valparaiso 32, Michigan City 14
The last time Valparaiso was 4-0?  1995.
