Here is a look at notable scores from the third week of Indiana high school football:
Carmel 33, Center Grove
32
A bounce of the ball – literally – makes a big difference in this major
showdown. A reverse of last year’s
meeting as this time it’s Carmel going for – and converting – a two-point
conversion in the final minutes to make the difference.
Castle 24, Evansville
Central 23
A matchup of previously unbeatens in Evansville.
Cincinnati St. Xavier
(Ohio) 17, Cathedral 3
The Irish may be 1-2, but losses to nationally ranked Carmel and St. X will
have them tested for anything for the rest of the season. Do not be shocked if they win out.
Columbus East 44, Seymour
14
The Olympians, ranked #1 in 4A, get a jump on their Hoosier Hills Conference
schedule.
Columbus North 35,
Bloomington North 28
Any game pitting brothers against each other – CN head coach Tim Bless vs. BN
head coach Scott Bless – makes for a good storyline.
Concord 36, NorthWood 20
The Minutemen are putting up points and knocking off opponents. NorthWood had been unbeaten.
Crown Point 10,
Merrillville 7
Tough start (1-2) for Merrillville, while Crown Point keeps another game
low-scoring (they’ve scored a total of 17 points and given up a total of 27 in
three games).
FW Dwenger 29, FW South
19
It’s going to be another fun season of football in Fort Wayne. Dwenger is 3-0.
FW Luers 41, FW South 0
Luers has been alright since the loss of CB Lawrence Barnett (broken ankle in
Week 1). The Knights are 3-0 and have
not given up a point so far. I’m hearing Barnett may be able to make it back if
Luers is back to defend their 2A state championship on Thanksgiving weekend.
FW Snider 41, FW Northrup
0
The Panthers move to 3-0 with their first shutout.
Hamilton Southeastern 22,
Brownsburg 0
The Royals keep it perfect, while Brownsburg, who looked to make a move up in
the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, drop their second straight.
Heritage Christian 37,
Lapel 6
The Eagles (3-0) give up their first points of the season. Lapel loses their first game.
Hobart 19, Griffith 0
3-0 Hobart has given up 14, then 7, then 0 points in their first three games.
Bishop Chatard 16, Roncalli
8
The Trojans continue to keep their opponents in single digits and operate an
impressive ground game.
Indianapolis Ritter 16,
Brebeuf 7
1A Ritter goes to 3-0 with a win over a previously ranked 3A Brebeuf team.
Jimtown 49, LaVille13
The Jimmies put up points in their second straight win.
John Glenn 19, Knox 13
(2OT)
The Falcons take it in double OT, giving Knox their first loss.
Lafayette Central
Catholic 36, Clinton Central 0
The Knights bounce back from last week’s loss to 3A Benton Central with a
conference win.
Lafayette Jeff 34,
McCutcheon 20
Jeff goes to 3-0 with a cross-town win.
Lawrence Central 49,
Perry Meridian 0
LC, who started the past two seasons 0-5 and 0-4, are 3-0 this time around.
Lewis Cass 24,
Northwestern 6
The 2-1 Kings win their first road game beating previously unbeaten
Northwestern.
New Palestine 27,
Pendleton Heights 24 (OT)
The Dragons get their first win, while the Arabians lose by the same score a
second straight week.
North Montgomery 42,
Southmont 19
The Chargin’ Chargers improve to 3-0 and are averaging over 49 points per game.
Oak Hill 17, Eastbrook 14
Golden Eagles win this local rivalry to move to 3-0.
Penn 42, Mishawaka Marian
0
The Kingsmen pitch a shutout after starting the season 0-2.
Perry Central 42,
Crawford County 0
The Commodores are off to another strong start going 3-0 and giving up only 12
points so far.
Plymouth 35, Warsaw 7
The Rockies smack 5A Warsaw for their first loss of the season.
Portage 26, Lake Central
7
Valpo has gotten the most publicity after beating Penn in Week 1, but there is
another Duneland team that is undefeated – Portage.
Rockville 28, South
Putnam 26
The 3-0 Rox surprised by not winning by more.
Shelbyville 47, Franklin
14
The Golden Bears may be on their way to a second straight undefeated regular
season.
Sheridan 56, Twin Lakes 0
Another week, another win for the Blackhawks… that’s 39 in a row.
South Bend St. Joe’s 21,
Mishawaka 10
The Indians are 3-0, the Cavemen lost their first.
Southport 28, Pike 21
Upset of the Week. The oft struggling
Cardinals may have turned a corner. They
upset 5A #4 Pike for their first Conference Indiana win since 2005 and just
their 4th win in their last 33 games.
Tri-West 14, Lebanon 10
The Bruins get their 3rd win and seem like they’ll be a threat.
Valparaiso 48, LaPorte 0
The second straight shutout for the 3-0 Vikings.
Warren Central 56,
Lawrence North 14
The Warriors are dangerous. 3-0 with a drubbing of conference opponent Lawrence
North.
Whiteland 41, Plainfield
38 (3OT)
The 3-0 Warriors end a nine-game regular season losing streak to the Quakers.
