The Jeffersonville girls’ track team won seven events at the Hoosier Hills Conference meet on Tuesday evening at Seymour’s Bulleit Stadium. But the Red Devils failed to win the biggest prize of all — the conference championship.

Jeff scored 105 points to finish third. Defending HHC champion New Albany wound up fourth with 100 1/2 points, while Floyd Central placed sixth with 63 1/2 points.

Columbus East matched the Red Devils’ seven victories to win the meet with 122 points. Madison placed second with 116 1/2.

It was a great night for the Red Devils’ Shanice Gholson. The junior won three individual events and helped Jeff’s 400-meter relay team set a meet record in its victory.

Gholson swept the sprint titles, winning the 100 dash in a time of 12.65 seconds and the 200 in 26.50. She claimed the long jump crown with a leap of 16 feet, 4 1/2 inches.

In the 400 relay, Gholson teamed up with Lavada Roberson, Shar’licia Harbin and Brooklyn Kinnaird to prevail in 49.78, snapping the old HHC record by .14 of a second. Kinnaird placed second in the 100.

Jeff junior Devin Conway won the 800 in 2:30.88, while senior teammate Austina Smith was the winner in the high jump at 5-4. Red Devil sophomore Tierney Mull prevailed in the discus at 101-4.

The Bulldogs posted only one victory, which was in the 1,600 relay. The team of Hali Alexander, Brandi Waller, Danielle Hutchinson and Kellybrooke Lane won in 4:14.

Alexander, though, came up short of defending her HHC titles in both hurdles events.

Columbus East junior Brittany Housel set a conference record in the 100 hurdles, winning in 15.34 seconds to outpace second-place Alexander. The Bulldog senior defeated Housel last year in the event.

“Alexander, she’s a top-notch hurdler, and Brittany’s been keying to get a race against her,” Olympians head coach Glen Brown said.

Housel also easily outpaced Alexander to win the 300 hurdles. Housel finished in 46.30, while Alexander was second in 48.87, again reversing last year’s 1-2 finish.

Waller finished second in the 400, while teammate Anjelica Groves was the runner-up in the long jump. New Albany senior Stephanie Cave was second in both the 1,600 and 3,200.

Meghan Jones collected the lone victory for the Highlanders. The junior claimed the 400 title in 58.80. She also finished second in the 200 and the high jump.
