The New Albany girls’ tennis team nearly pulled off a sweep against rival Jeffersonville on Wednesday — settling instead for a 4-1 win against the visiting Red Devils.

Each of New Albany’s four wins was in straight sets and the only loss was a three-set match.

Kylia Sullivan and Haley Haws each won singles matches in the Bulldog victory. Sullivan topped Jeff’s Michelle Roberts 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position and Haws defeated Dee Roehm 6-4, 6-3 to win the No. 3 spot.

Sarah Nale and Maddie Bellew won at No. 1 doubles for New Albany, beating Macauley Murphy and Kristi Hubbard. The final win for the Bulldogs was by Ishita Jain and Emory Jones, who topped Susan Diteresa and Tanya Korchersberger 6-4, 6-3.

Jeff’s Katherine Clark scored her team’s lone win, beating Kylie Crecelius 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

“New Albany has a very solid team,” said Jeff coach Mark Reilly. “I like how their singles and doubles players create points. I can see them giving other teams a lot of trouble.”
