Behind a memorable performance from distance runner Scott Vicenzi, the Brownsburg boys' track team captured its first county championship in 12 years at Plainfield Tuesday.

Vicenzi won three events - the 800 (1:57.98), 1600 (4:38.78), and 3200 (10:02.10) - to lead the Bulldogs to a convincing victory.

Brownsburg scored 178 points, while second-place Avon finished 51 points behind with 127.

"I thought we had a great chance, but I wasn't expecting to win by 50," Brownsburg coach Bret Neylon said. "Scott's performance tonight was just amazing. He put his heart and soul into that 800 tonight.

"It's going to be hard to ever find another distance runner like Scott and tonight's a good example of why he's one of the best that's ever come through this county."

The Bulldogs last won the county championship in 1998, which was Neylon's first year as the teamÕs head coach.

"It's pretty cool that we got it after 12-13 years and I was able to be a big part of it," Vicenzi said.

Brownsburg picked up two other victories in the meet - Alan Paddock won the 200 (23.27) and the team of Zach Cassels, Scott Hathaway, Daniel Purdy, and Andrew Maloney won the 4x800 relay race (8:29.13).

Avon held off third-place Plainfield by a point - 127-126 - behind five event wins.

The Orioles cleaned up in the field events.

Brad Vivace won the discus (138-10.5) and the shot put (50-06), while Shayne Cureton won the high jump (6-4) and the long jump (21-6.75).

Avon's other win came from the 4x100 relay team of Michael Picot, Dominique Blackmon, Devon Mikell, and Jalen Edwards (44.98).

Third-place Plainfield won four events Ñ Tyler Cozart in the pole vault (13 feet); Chris Fricker in the 100 (11.43); Joey Cadwell in the 300 hurdles (41.28); and the 4x400 relay team of Cadwell, Fricker, Andrew Wilhelm, and Tyler Williams.

Tri-West finished in fourth place and won two events in the meet - Joe Gramling in the 400 (52.52) and Matt Moore in the 110 hurdles(15.46).

Danville finished fifth with 57 points. Ross Phillips (pole vault, 10-6), Briar Lillard (shot put 46-7), Justin Gillespie (100, 11.56), and Maddison Russell (3200, 10:17.49) each finished third for the Warriors.

Cascade placed sixth with 30.5 points. Levi Musson had the Cadets' best finish of the meet, placing fourth in the 3200 (10:45.70).
