Journal Review
By Matt Wilson
Trace Cotten finally broke the regional barrier.
The Crawfordsville senior last year advanced to the Lafayette Jefferson regionals in the 110 hurdles, but was unable to get beyond that point. With the top three finishers advancing to state, Cotten placed fifth in 15.31 seconds.
Cotten made a return trip to Lafayette on Thursday after winning the 110 hurdles during the Plainfield Sectional. He cemented a spot in his first state finals of his prep career after placing third with a time of 14.66 seconds.
“I came into the race thinking that I was seeded sixth,” Cotten said. “I thought it was going to be a situation just like last year, where I ran as hard as I could and it just wasn’t enough. I kind of had mixed feelings when I finished in third place, but then all my teammates came to me and told me that I had beat the county record and beat my old record, so that made me feel better.”
