Amie Gillis, 12-year-old daughter of Dennis and Stefanie Gillis of Waldron, recently qualified to compete March 28 and 29 in the Indiana State Gymnastics competition in Madison.
Her Level 9, four event all around score during the annual Chicago Style Gymnastics meet in February earned her the spot in the state competition. A seventh grader at Waldron Junior-Senior High School, Gilles was among 4,100 gymnasts who competed in Chicago.
The event earned an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest meet to be held of its kind. Gymnasts from 32 states and from the countries of El Salvador and Bermuda competed in Chicago. The Chicago event was billed as the World's Largest Artistic Women's Gymnastics Meet.
Gilles, who started gymnastics training at the age of 3-1/2, has been competing for six years. She trains and competes at Jody's Gymnastics in Columbus.
