Despite having just four team members and a relatively inexperienced squad, the Plainfield gymnastics team placed sixth in a tough Warren Central sectional Saturday.
Their score (95.3) was just 0.2 points behind fifth-place Noblesville and 0.95 points behind fourth-place Warren Central.
“We were happy overall, we did post our highest team score of the season,” Plainfield coach Paula Meszaros said. “Some of our girls came up with the highest scores they had all season.”
Roncalli won the meet with a team score of 109.125.
With the top three teams and top six individuals advancing, the Quakers won’t be represented at regional, but had some solid performances.
Sophomore Sami Saxman nearly advanced to the regional meet in two events, finishing seventh on the beam (8.8) and eighth all-around (33.575). Saxman also placed 13th on the bars (8.225),14th on her floor exercise (8.5), and 18th on the vault (8.050).
Senior Rachel Leath finished 14th all-around (31.65), 15th on the bars (8.025), 16th on the beam (8.15), and 14th on the vault (8.15)
Saxman’s sister — Sharla, a freshman — placed 18th all-around (30.075), 16th on the bars (7.975), and 16th on the vault (8.1).
Sophomore Kelsey Wooden also participated for the Quakers, finishing 38th on vault, 43rd in floor exercise, and 46th on the beam.
