Southmont regional gymnastic streak stopped

For the first time since 2005, Southmont’s gymnastics team won’t have a participant at the IHSAA state regionals.

The Mounties’ three-year string of having regional qualifiers was broken after placing eighth at Saturday’s Harrison Sectional with 76.350 points.

With the top six performers in each individual event moving on to regionals, the closest regional qualifier the Mounties had was junior Kyra Burton, who placed eighth on the vault with her score of 8.4.
Even though her team’s season ended Saturday, Southmont coach Aimee Zachary was pleased with the performances of her four gymnasts she had competing. Because they were ruled academically ineligible, the Mounties were without junior Alex Zachary and freshman Kara Price — two of their top gymnasts — Saturday.

Among Southmont’s competitors was freshman Morgan Price, who competed in the vault, bars and floor.
