Martinsville High School sophomore diver Allie Lake advanced to the finals in Saturday’s state meet — and moved up two spot in the process, finishing 14th.
Lake was in 16th place after the prelims, but her 97.55 points in the semifinals was enough to move up a spot. She maintained that position in the finals by scoring 96.3, finishing with 365.60 points for the meet. Franklin’s Natalie Grissom again edged her out after doing the same at sectionals, this time for 13th with 368.65 points.
Noblesville’s Katie Bittner won the diving championship with 470.05 points. Elkhart Memorials’ Jami Denlinger finished in 15th behind Lake with 365.15 points.
Lake won championships this season at the Mooresville Invitational and Mid-State Conference, and finished second in sectionals and fourth in the diving regionals.
Indian Creek’s Catie Reese came in 19th in the 100 butterfly in the prelims with a time of 58.53, just short of being an alternate. She won the sectional championship in that event.
