National, State Records Fall Friday at Girls Swim Finals

Three state records fell including one national mark during Friday's preliminary heats in the 35th annual girls swimming and diving state finals. Carmel's 200 medley relay team broke a national high school record with a time of 1:42.09 (1:42.71 was the previous national mark) while the Greyhounds' 200 free relay team broke a 14-year old state record with a 1:34.50 (1:34.84). Hamilton Southeastern's 400 free relay team swam a 3:25.92 in the final event of the evening breaking its own 3:26.61 set a year ago. Championship and consolation finals continue Saturday at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
