The Crawfordsville girls swimming and diving team got the final cheer during a record-setting sectional Saturday at the Crawfordsville Aquatic Center.
In a meet featuring multiple pool, school and sectional records shattered, the Athenians won their seventh straight sectional crown with 295 points, beating second-place Greencastle by 60 tallies.
From the opening event of the meet, fans knew they would be in for fast swims.
Crawfordsville’s 200 medley relay team of Shelby Conrad, Missy Robinson, Victoria Fairfield and Rebecca Howland broke the school, pool and sectional record by winning the event in 1:50.69. Greencastle’s team of Kelsey Murtagh, Morgan Terry, Melissa Ball and Erika Collins came in second with their state-cut time of 1:52.43.
“To go a 1:52 and go as fast as they did and break the school record by more than one second really set the tone for the rest of the meet,” said Crawfordsville coach Mark Hesse.
