Oak Hill Senior Swimmer Helps Golden Eagles Fly

11/26/2008

Senior Valerie Hobbs helped Oak Hill achieve a feat it hadn’t accomplished in almost a decade. The senior was a member of the 200 meter freestyle relay team that was a winner in a dual meet against Pendleton Heights, helped the Golden Eagles beat the Arabians for the first time since 2000.

“It had been a long time since we beat them, and they are one of the top teams in the state,” Oak Hill coach Mark Yordy said. “She has had great leadership, and I would say she is our top swimmer so far.”

Hobbs’ versatility has Oak Hill still attempting to figure out what events she will compete in as the season progresses.

“She is very consistent in many events, and we’re not sure where we are going to use her just yet,” Yordy said. “She is good in the freestyle events and the breaststroke, as well as the relays.

“She is off to a good start; we just need to figure out where she fits best for us.”
