Wrestlers ready for the challenge

The Journal Review
Dylan McBride hasn’t been here before, Nick Hodges has.

Both area wrestlers are excited to get the 2009 IHSAA state finals started.

The first round is tonight starting at 6 p.m. at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The junior McBride, whom was Crawfordsville’s first semistate champ since 1985, will head into his first state final as a participant.

As a freshman, McBride — a heavyweight — said he remembered watching teammate Chaz Brock compete and wanted to get from the seating area of Conseco Fieldhouse to the floor level.

With the help and encouragement of coach Chris Ervin, McBride accomplished a far-flung goal of his.
“I dreamed about this, this is what I wanted this season,” he said. “(Coach Ervin) told me he had high expectations of me this season after I won at semistate and that made me feel real good.
