The Journal Review
By Matt Wilson
North Montgomery senior Eric Spencer didn’t get the cake he desired, but he still went out and accomplished what he wanted during the boys swimming and diving state finals.
Swimming the 100 freestyle in the first state meet of his prep career, Spencer came in looking to get a 48.11, which is the time Seeger’s Casey Schroeder won the 100 freestyle in at last year’s sectionals. Schroeder said he would bake Spencer a cake if he beat that time.
Spencer was unable to beat that time, but still made school history while completing the race in 48.79 seconds.
With that effort, Spencer reset for the school record in the 100 freestyle for the fourth time of the season. He also improved four spots from his 30th-place seed, finishing 26th.
