The Shelbyville News
Triton Central swimmer Luke Green's training switch to Franklin Central this season nearly paid off in a trip to the State Finals.
Green, who worked out at Shelbyville last season, made the switch to Franklin Central, a much closer venue which allowed for more time in the pool. It also meant he knew his toughest competition first hand.
Franklin Central senior Brad Scott bested the field in the 200-yard freestyle sectional final Saturday afternoon at the Franklin Central Sectional, including Green, to earn a state finals berth.
Scott touched first in 1:45.04. Green, who qualified second on Thursday, finished second in a personal best time of 1:51.30.
Green returned to the pool later to finish fourth with another personal best time in the 100 freestyle.
Franklin Central won the sectional team title in its own pool with a score of 323. Lawrence North was second with 245 points. Warren Central (155), Cathedral (142) and Lawrence Central (139) rounded out the top five.
Shelbyville was eighth with 53 points. Green, Triton Central's only swimmer, amassed 24 team points.
Shelbyville's best finishes came in the relay events.
Jacob Frazee, Paul Carlisle (Shelbyville's only senior), Tanner Hunt and Joe Cross combined for a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
Frazee, Carlisle and Cross teamed with Justin Marshall to finish seventh in the 200 medley relay.
And the all-freshman quartet of Hunt, Jonathan Shreves, John Frazee and Zach Martin placed eighth in the 400 freestyle relay.
Individually, Martin was 10th in the 500 freestyle, Cross was 12th in the 50 free, Marshall was 12th in the 100 backstroke and Jacob Frazee was 12th in the 200 individual medley.
Shelbyville diver James Borchert finished 10th.
